Earthrise Studio and BUPA

Survival Song

Intertwining two parallel journeys of recovery and resilience: the atomic-bomb-surviving trees of Japan and a choir of cancer survivors who have lost their voice boxes through radiotherapy and surgery. Both human and tree communities sing — one through literal vibration replacing the larynx, the other through deep-time growth — reminding us that our well-being is inseparable from that of the Earth.

Shout at Cancer Choir

Head and neck cancer survivors thanks to the healing power of radiation: radiotherapy, in combination with the surgical removal of the voice box, laryngectomy.

Hibaku Jumoku Choir

The trees that survived the nuclear bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki filmed with infrared and thermal cameras, the trees are revealed as living, breathing witnesses to history. Their subtle sounds — captured with accelerometers and hydrophones — form the base of the soundscape, echoing the internal transformations of the choir members as they re-learn and re-imagine their voices
